It is that time of the year again where YMCA’s across the country raise dollars to continue offering services to those in need. Our goal at the Coal Creek Family Y is to raise $250,000 over the course of the next six weeks to help contribute to the $5 million goal set by the YMCA’s that make up the Greater Seattle area.
As you know, the Y is simply not just a gym, but an integral part of the communities that it serves in. Whether it is in Newcastle, SeaTac, West Seattle, or North Seattle, the mission of these locations is to create a safe and healthy community. When you donate to the YMCA, you’re investing in your community. Your support provides a place full of opportunities for kids to develop into smart, resilient adults, for people to improve their health and build a sense of community, and for our most vulnerable young people to get the care and support they need. These dollars are NOT used to replace fitness equipment or upgrade facilities.
At the Coal Creek Family Y one of our major areas is addressing hunger in the communities around us through a Backpack Meals program. For some kids, school is the only place they are sure to get a meal. The Coal Creek Family Y is working to change that. Backpack Meals for Kids are prepared every week for local homeless children and their families. The bags are full of food that is child friendly, nutritious, nonperishable, and easy to eat. The backpacks are packed each week by various volunteer groups. The backpacks are sent home with the kids each Friday, to provide food over the weekend then they need it most. For every $500 raised we can provide a family meals on the weekend for an entire school year. You have the ability to make a difference.
