Hello, and welcome to my donation page!
I have been working with the Dale Turner Family YMCA for a little over a year now, and have had a great time doing it. Currently I am overseeing our youth sports department, where I am privileged to create, organize and run our branch's sports leagues and classes for youth between the ages of 3 and 15. Besides sports, I organize and teach our Homezone program, which is a physical education program for kids who are homeschooled or in alternative programs that don't contract me to provide their kids with a PE class.
Through my time at the Y, I've witnessed first hand all of the opportunities we provide to our community. To start, we NEVER turn anyone away because they cannot afford a program. No matter what, we will work with that family to make things more affordable for them. The Y's philisophy is that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in a program, and their income shouldn't be what's holding them back. In my case, I've been able to provide many families with the opportunity to participate in basketball, soccer and football, which is amazing to me. However, in a broader scope of things, I love the Y's philosophy not because kids get to play sports, but because kids get to learn things that are actually important to know in life. The one thing that stands out to me when I think about the Y providing the community with opportunities is swim lessons. To me, you should know how to swim no matter how much money you make because that's a survival issue.
Through our annual fund drive, we raise money to provide our local community members in need with the opportunity to participate in sports, swim lessons, after school care that is safe and engaging for elementary-aged kids and middle schoolers, then also important things such as providing the low-income community with free meals at our meal programs that take place at POPYs and Ronald's Cafe.
Your donation could provide a community member with a hot meal, a swim lesson, a PE class, or even a safe place to be after school while mom and dad keep working to provide for their family. Please help your local neighbors who need it!
When you donate to your YMCA, you’re investing in your community. Your support provides a place full of opportunities for kids to develop into smart, resilient adults, for people to improve their health and build a sense of community, and for our most vulnerable young people to get the care and support they need.
Beyond this place lies a cause: providing opportunities for all to strengthen community, giving people hope for a better future, and the means to achieve it.
Addressing Critical Local Needs
Developing Smart, Resilient Youth
Your support prepares the next generation of kids to be successful adults.
Thanks to the support of caring donors like you, the Y is able to provide programs for our community’s youth from birth to graduation and beyond—no matter what their families’ financial situations may be.
In Y programs, kids develop the courage to try new things, the resilience to try again when they fail, social skills to make friends and keep them, and values like compassion, generosity, honesty, respect for diversity, and social responsibility.
Enhancing People's Health & Building Community
No one knows kids and communities better than the Y.
The Y is where community happens. In neighborhoods and towns across King County, the local Y is where people of all ages come together to laugh, learn, exercise, and build their sense of collective purpose and connectedness.
From the banking executive to the stay-at-home parent, the retired teacher to the cancer survivor, we give everyone the opportunity to live healthier lives, with donor-funded scholarships and sliding scale fees to ensure that the Y opportunities are open to all.
Caring for Vulnerable Young People
You drive the Y’s work to help youth and young people who need us the most.
As a charitable organization, the Y is deeply committed to serving the greater good. And, thanks to you, we are making a profound difference in people’s lives. We provide thousands of meals to hungry kids, safe, stable environments for foster youth and their families, and positive role models and opportunities to learn and work for at-risk and homeless youth.
Your support makes our community stronger. Please join me and give today.
